If you don't meditate, I recommend you start the practice. Many very successful people meditate before making very important business decisions. People who meditate will do so before making important life decisions to get clarity in their answers for they know their responses come from their Higher Self.

If you never meditated before, or you think it's something hard to do, follow my recommendation. Start with two to three minutes a day and expand it to five. Just be in the silence - no radio playing. You don't need a special meditation room. You don't need special tapes playing, special music. You don't need a meditation chair or pillow. Just go some place and get comfortable.

People tell you never lie down when you're meditating, that your spine has to be erect and straight, and your shoulders and your head and your whole body have to line up. You know what? I've been meditating lying down for years and I get very, very clear messages and solutions when I meditate.

And you know you might fall asleep when you're meditating. When that happens what does that mean? Well, it can mean one of two things: one, your Little Voice has gotten to you and taken you out--so you miss any messages that come from your Higher Self. Or, it might just mean you're tired. Or, it might be a way for you to go some place else to find your answers.

So, if you want to lie down when you take that time to go into the silence within, it's okay. Don't let anybody tell you how to meditate or for how long, or how often. But do make it a practice in your everyday existence because you'll notice not only will you get answers, you'll feel better. It will give you a surge of energy. It will revitalize you. And you won't need to feel better because you took some kind of drug or a caffeine beverage or food. You'll just feel better.

What you focus on expands and manifests in your life. Discover how your brain and mind influence your choice of focus completely out of your awareness--and what to do about it.

Mind Tools for Meditation and Personal Development.

New breakthrough discoveries by Neuroscience and Quantum Physics have given birth to a whole new technology of tools to enhance and expand our Human Potential. The most powerful mind and meditation tools ever created are now available-and most people have never even heard of this new technology that can unlock the limitless potential of the most powerful force in the universe; ‘our mind’, especially our sub-conscious mind.

Our subconscious mind is responsible for at least 70% of the results in our lives. Our mental programs stored in our sub-conscious mind are made up of our values and beliefs that work like filters, which in turn define our attitude and behavior towards the events in our life, or how we interpret ‘reality’.

Since most self-improvement techniques, like books and seminars, focus mainly on the conscious mind level, we tend to forget most of the information we acquire very quickly. While we may experience some results, the changes we expected do not last very long. So it is not uncommon to feel frustrated and quit our search for excellence and peak mental performance.

If you are the type of person that regularly tries self-help techniques, you may have tried positive affirmations. Positive affirmations are repeated on a conscious level, and have the potential to help us re-program our thinking, but most people do not find a quick fix, and often times they just make people feel silly! The problem isn't that these things can't work. It's just that they require an immense amount of effort and repetition to penetrate the conscious mind and reprogram years of negative programming that already exists in your unconscious. The problem with all these methods is they don't directly address the true source of your behaviors or core beliefs.

Many people have not even become aware of a new technology that is available that is helping people achieve amazing results. It is a technology that can bypass the conscious mind and address the unconscious directly, in effect, opening a window into your inner mind so you can implant positive programming. Through repetition and real life experiences that begin to mirror this new internal reality, it becomes self-reinforcing and self-perpetuating. Once locked in, your mind-script is modified permanently. The unconscious then acts in accordance with its new programming and brings about changes in your everyday experiences to match this new reality. These programs utilize Brain Supercharger technology to directly modify your brain state and insert the new, healthy programming right into your consciousness.

One of the newest technologies available today that is having a positive impact on millions of people’s lives is called Brain Wave Entrainment.

What Is Brain Wave Entrainment?

BWE - is a well known scientific process that of inducing specific brainwaves to a desired controlled frequency (such as beta, alpha, theta, delta).

One of the most effective forms of Brain Wave Entrainment uses binaural tones that recreate the desired beat frequency. The theory is that if this frequency is used as a stimulus to the brain for a period of time, then the brain's own frequency will adjust accordingly causing the pneuronet of the brain to restructure itself to a higher level of consciousness by balancing its left and right hemispheres, thus producing the positive lasting changes that we seek.

Why would you want to do this? BWE can help you relax or stimulate your nervous system, and therefore will produce a sense of well-being, reducing depression and anxiety, improving overall health, and stimulate positive thinking. According to Bill Harris founder of The Centerpointe Institute and the creator of The Holosync Solution: “this technology will safely and effortlessly take you to states of profoundly deep (and extremely pleasurable) meditation, stimulate the creation of new neural pathways between the right and left hemispheres of your brain, balancing your brain and leading you to a high-performance state scientists also call Whole Brain Functioning. You can dramatically improve your learning ability, memory, intuition, creativity, and your ability to focus, concentrate and think more clearly… Create true quantum leaps in your personal self awareness… Significantly lower your stress levels and lower your levels of harmful brain chemicals related to stress like cortisol…Create remarkable improvements in your mental and emotional health—even in areas that have stubbornly resisted change with other approaches…increase your production of vital (and very pleasurable) brain chemicals (serotonin) related to your longevity, well-being, and quality of life”.

Another well known company is The Transparent Corporation which is the premier developer of brain stimulation and training products geared towards solving human problems and increasing human potential. Their products are used by therapists, businesses, M.D.'s, teachers, academic researchers and thousands of regular, every day people in over 40 countries.

These and many others BWE products can be purchased for personal use. I have put together a web site called TheNewHealers.com which is a 'Mind Tools Online Resource Guide' that gives more information on the top and latest “Mind Tools” available on the market today from very well respected leading companies.

I hope you find it helpful.

Create A Meditation Space

Meditation can be done virtually anywhere, but creating a proper environment will make your meditation practice more fulfilling. Create an environment that is appealing and motivates you to practice regularly. If possible, devote a room or part of a room to meditation. If you don’t have an entire room, section off some space in a quiet, low traffic part of your home. Consider personalized icons, artwork or colors that inspire or soothe you during your meditation.

*Turn off phones, ringers, and any other items that can potentially distract you.

*If possible, have a source of fresh air.

*Have a source of warmth. Have a blanket or shawl to keep warm.

*Try to meditate in natural light - a source of natural light is perfect, though not too much direct sun. Dim artificial sources of light, if possible.

*Keep it clean. The mind is more able to be steady and relaxed when your meditation area is free of clutter. Stow your props (mats, blankets, cushions etc.) in a cupboard or a basket.

*Meditation should be done on a rug, carpet, or blanket. Avoid sitting directly on a cold floor.

*You can light candles and use a diffuser with a blend of essential oils to create a more relaxing mood.

Taking time to establish a meditation space will help you become more dedicated to your practice and will make your meditation experience more fulfilling.

How to Start Meditating

Preparing for a meditation is essential as this will enable you to receive all the health benefits from the practice. You can meditate anytime, but the most favorable times of day are at dawn and at dusk, when the atmosphere is charged with spiritual energy. More important, choose a time when your mind is free of everyday concerns. Consider meditating around the same time each day and in the same place.

We recommend that you wear comfortable clothing as this will allow the freest movement of the body. Also, create a meditation space that is free of distractions, mentally soothing, and will help still the mind. As most meditations are performed sitting, assume a comfortable upright position with your back, neck and head in a straight line. Modify your sitting posture with a cushion or meditation bench, if needed. If you have difficulty sitting due to back or knee discomfort, try meditating with legs straight or seated in a chair. Most important, avoid any feelings of strain, discomfort, or excess fatigue.

If you have any previous or current health issues (i.e. heart or circulatory conditions, respiratory conditions, muscle or joint problems, pregnancy), we strongly recommend that you consult a qualified physician prior to meditating as some the positions and breathing techniques may have contraindications.

Allow meditation to bring mental clarity and awareness. Practice without judgment. Enjoy the stillness that grows with a regular meditation practice.

Meditation is good for your heart. This is the message recently (in the year of 2006) conveyed by the Archives of Internal Medicine. The study reported that transcendental meditation (TM), a relaxation technique, reduced the risk factors of coronary heart disease in a 4-month clinical trial. Significantly reduced insulin resistance and lower blood pressure were found for patients who meditated. These patients also had more stable functioning of the autonomic nervous system that controls heart and other involuntary muscles.

There is closed relationship between stress, meditation, and heart health. It is evident that severe emotional and physical stress raises adrenalin levels or sympathetic drive, which in turn can lead to higher blood pressure or in worst case, may even transiently impair the ability of the heart to contract well. Stress can also cause the body to become less responsive to insulin, which is a hormone that controls the amount of sugar in the body. If you are already pre-diabetic or have metabolic syndrome, risk factors for heart disease, this condition will worsen. Meditation or any activity that can reduce stress levels is useful to improve blood pressure or metabolic syndrome.

What affect your brain is connected to what your heart functions. Emotional distress affects part of the brain function, which affects the sympathetic drive and so, the heart. The happier your brain is, the better your heart functions.

What is meditation? This is simply the practice of closing your eyes and focusing on your breathing as you go into a state of deep rest. It is a technique that can benefit not only your mind but also your body. It can actually reduce your risk of collapsing from heart problems by modulating your body's response to stress. In short, meditation is a practice that involves calming your mind and body.

TM is an effortless technique practiced for about 15 to 20 minutes twice daily. It allows a person to attain deep rest for the body and mind. A suitable time to meditate is when the person is not feeling tired, hungry, or irritated. He or she should feel comfortable and be in a positive frame of mind.

Drugs cannot effectively reduce stress levels and should not be considered as the primary approach. A happy, spiritual or emotional heart is basically good medicine. This is an advice from a friend of mine who is also a consultant cardiologist. So, perhaps you may wish to consider meditation as one of the alternatives to help you reduce your stress level.

Meditation - Healing Powers, Benefits, And How To Get Started

There are many forms of meditation and, although it has its origins in the Eastern cultures, the West is quickly learning the benefits of this relaxing practice. A lot of people think of meditation as some guy sitting on a pillow, legs crossed, eyes closed, humming. However, meditation can be done while sitting on a chair, lying down, sitting at your desk, or just about anywhere. While the many different forms of meditation are as diverse as their types, there is one thing that they all have in common: they focus on calming and quietening a chaotic, busy mind. With as chaotic as our lives today can get, no wonder why more and more are finding the health benefits of meditation.

The goal of meditation is not to end or remove the stimulation. It is more a training of the mind to direct focus and concentration to one element. This single element may be a single sound, a single word or thought, a single image or even the person's own breathing. This is designed to bring calm and peace to the mind by making it focus so that stress, worry and depression are pushed outside of the mind. The mind does not have room to dwell on these things if the calm and peace is successfully brought to the forefront of the consciousness, in the present moment.

There are basically two types or styles of meditation. All of the techniques, both Eastern and Western, can be grouped into one or the other. The first of these styles of meditation is concentrative. This means that the attention is focused on the breath, an image or a sound such as a mantra to still the mind and heighten awareness and carity. Certain types of music can do this.

Concentrative meditation is probably the type of meditation that is familiar to most people. The person sits quietly and focuses their attention on the breath, known as "conscious breathing." This type of meditation is very good for relieving anxiety, stress and distraction because it causes the person to focus and relax.

To perform conscious breathing, sit in a chair or on a pillow on the floor. Close your eyes and breath in deeply through your mouth while saying to yourself, "I am breathing in." When you exhale through your nose (or mouth), say to yourself, "I am breathing out." Picture positivity being breathed in with each breath you take and negativity being expelled each time you exhale. Absorb yourself in the act of breathing in and out, think of nothing else.

The other type of meditation is mindfulness meditation. This type of meditation involves raising your awareness of all the sensations, feelings, images, thoughts, sounds and smells that you encounter each day. However, you do not dwell on them or become involved in thinking about them. The person simply sits quietly and observes the activity of the mind without being drawn into reacting to it or becoming involved in negative reactions to it such as depression or worry. Through this exploration, the person gains a clearer, calmer state of mind that is non-reactive as opposed to bogged down in worry and depression.

Benefits of Meditation:

There are numerous physical and psychological benefits to meditation. As the body rests, the heart rate lowers, as does the metabolic rate and stress is dramatically decreased. Many negative physical and physiological reactions related to stress are decreased or eradicated altogether. Concentration is increased and memory is improved. Additionally, anxiety, depression, moodiness and irritability are decreased while feelings of vitality, happiness, rejuvenation and emotional stability are improved.

The purpose of meditation is to relax and calm the mind and relax the body.  Choose a quiet time when you would not be disturbed at all, at least for 5 to 10 minutes. The idea behind keeping the time a little less, in the beginning, is to let you get comfortable with the principles of meditation- silence and concentration. The mind is so used to wandering and flitting about, that getting it to remain still needs some practice.  While it is possible to meditate while standing or walking, to begin with sit in a comfortable posture, keeping your eyes partially closed, so as to avoid getting distracted by your surroundings. If you are more comfortable keeping your eyes open, then try and focus on a single point in front of you, because if you keep looking around, you wouldn’t be able to calm the mind. Don’t be too conscious about your posture. Choose a place where you would feel relaxed and undisturbed. If you can, choose to meditate outdoors but indoors, too is good as long as the place is free of clutter. Try to make your meditation a ritual by lighting a candle, burning some incense, playing some soft, or soothing music and then begin.

Take in a deep breathe, fill your lungs with fresh, pure air and observe the passage of air through your body. Then exhale softly and again, focus on the passage of air leaving your lungs. You may choose a sound to focus on or simply, concentrate on the passage of your breath or play some music to focus on.  Continue this for 5-10 minutes, whatever is comfortable for you, and at the end of the session, rub your palms together and place them lightly on your eyes. Open your eyes and smile gently as you get ready to face the world around you. Try and meditate at least once a day to begin with and gradually, you could meditate even twice and experience greater benefits.

Meditation has for long been in use to solve several issues related to the physiological existence and mental peace and dignity. The important aspect of doing natural healing meditation is that it helps the practitioner connect his heart to his mind. Despite being in one body the two i.e. heart and mind do not connect with each other easily thanks to the world and its functionality. A positive effort only can bring the two important parts of body i.e. heart and mind in coherence and rhythm and that is meditation.

In a typical healing meditation, which is a meditation wherein an effort is made to help the person establish a connection between his heart and his mind for a synchronized functioning of the body and soul. Natural healing meditation is a subjective experience where only the experiencer can tell what he has achieved. Being of internal understanding or knowledge, healing and meditation sometimes are perceived as mystic. However, it is one of the simplest and most available methods to balance karma and life; a practice and guidance nevertheless is mandatory for it.

When you are only just starting out meditation can seem like a very daunting task. Beginners often find meditation extremely difficult and tend to become frustrated with the process, inevitably causing stress and discomfort. Such negativity obviously counteracts the very objectives of meditation. This is why it is very important to attempt meditation the right way in the beginning by practising developed methods of meditation for beginners.

The higher levels of consciousness which can be reached through meditation are truly indescribable. That is why meditation in its nature is so incredibly personal, but also so difficult to be taught. Meditation for beginners needs to start out simply by introducing the concepts of proper breathing as well as physical, mental and spiritual relaxation.

When a person continuously over works their body and their mind, they decrease their ability to perform work effectively. Contemporary Western food, social life, work and forms of entertainment are often over stimulating and make it increasingly difficult to experience real relaxation. Even when we attempt rest our minds are often still extremely alert and buzzing with so many thoughts that we are still using, and wasting, our energy. It is vital to learn proper relaxation techniques so that we can most efficiently use our minds and our bodies.

Most people do not breathe correctly. This may sound strange as everyone seems to be breathing well enough to gain oxygen and sustain life but many people only use a small part of their lung capacity when breathing. They take very shallow breaths and do not properly expand their ribcages. Correct breathing should be unhurried, flowing and deep. Full proper breathing has countless benefits for the mind, body and soul including increased mental lucidity and physical vitality.

A very simple form of meditation which beginners can attempt involves breathing in this slow and rhythmical way. Whenever you next experience stress and need relaxation take a moment to control your breathing. Take slow, deep breaths in through your nose, hold for two seconds and then slowly expel the air through your mouth. Continue breathing in this way for a few minutes and your tension should dissolve into calmness.

Our mind is an invisible canvas on which every fleeting moment leaves its signature. Recollection of memories what we are very fond of as it makes us tiptoe down the memory lanes to the unforgettable moments. But all of them are not associated with pleasant events. Some get the traumatic experiences flooding back. The happy moments are painted bright on the canvas and saddest events are dipped in the gloomy colors. Revisiting the unfortunate events pains us just as we get overwhelmed with joy while reminiscing the wonderful moments. The strong bondage with the unhappy moments is the hindrance that prevents us from experiencing a peace of mind. Medication is the right way to distillate the joyous moments and filters out the painful memories. You can practice meditation under the guidance of an expert or with help of meditation cds.
