We all know how difficult it is for consumers to select an area rug for their home. This is not a purchasing decision they make every day, and therefore do not feel comfortable with it. Not having any knowledge as to the specific characteristics of a high vs. poor quality, as well as the required care and maintenance for these works of art, they often postpone their decisions or even abandon it altogether. If you find yourself in a similar situation, here are some tips that may help you make a decision:

1- Decide on the right size and color combination as the first step in this process.  With so many beautiful floor coverings of hardwood, tile, laminate, and so many others out there, you may want to use an area rug as a centerpiece rather than coverage for the whole floor. There is no set of rules indicating that some certain percentage of the floor must always be covered by a rug. Keep in mind that the measurement of a rug, sometimes displayed on a price tag, normally does not include the fringe. So add a few inches from either side if you are trying to picture a certain size on your floor.  As for the pattern and color combination, choose what you like. You will be living with your rug for a long time, so be patient when selecting the one that best meets your taste.

2- A handmade Rug made of natural wool is definitely more desirable compared to one made by machines and often using synthetic fibers in the pile. It has been proven that these fibers can be harmful to people exposed to them. You may have to increase your budget for such a rug, but look at it as an investment of a life-time, and not as gambling. Natural wool of Persian and Oriental rugs is a much better choice compared to artificial fibers of machine-made rugs. Why go with cheap imitations when the original is readily available? Although it is unlikely that a salesperson will sell you a work of reproduction or a machine-made rug as an authentic Persian or Oriental rug, always ask for a full description of the rug on your invoice.

3- If you happen to be travelling abroad and decide to buy yourself an area rug, make sure the merchant provides you with the proper documents, stating the USD value for the rug clearly as getting your rug through the customs can prove to be difficult and take a lot of time. Of course it all depends on the declared value by you. If buying locally, make sure you learn about the dealer’s return policy. An area rug can look very different once you get it on your floor in your own environment. Make sure you have the option of returning the rug if it did not work for you or for any other reason. Remember; do not settle for in-store credit. You may not be able to find anything that you really like.

4- The number of knots per square inch (KPSI) is definitely a factor in deciding the value of any handmade rug. But what is it worth to you if you get the highest KPSI in a rug on your floor, but you still cannot make yourself like it? Try not to pay too much attention to KPSI. Concentrate instead on the proper size and color combination best for your space.

5- The Use of padding underneath your rug is a good idea as it will keep it in place, preventing unwanted movement and wrinkles and, as a result, protecting your rug. However, a more important protective measure would be to keep your rug as clean as possible. Dust particles act as sharp razors once they get into the body of your rug, cutting the fibers of the pile as you step on it. Vacuum clean your rug as often as you wish, at least once a week. It will not harm your rug, only be careful not to get the fringe stuck in the cleaner as it can damage the rug. Have your rug washed professionally every few years. Do not attempt to wash it at home.

Purchasing an Oriental or a Persian rug is a time-consuming process and requires some patience. Do not forget that you will be living with your rug for many years to come. Take your time and select something in which you feel you will see something new every time you look at it.

The symptoms of insomnia are; sleeplessness, sleeping for short spans during the night, waking up in the middle of night or early hours of the morning and not being able to fall asleep again. At times you fall asleep for several hours but your body and mind still feels unrest and tired. If you are interested in learning how acupuncture can help with IVF, you are probably already aware of the potential benefits of alternative therapies. This ancient Chinese practice can bring a number of positive effects on both the male and female reproductive systems and can increase the chance of a successful implantation and decrease the chance of miscarriage.

Relaxation

One of the simple ways in which acupuncture can help is by inducing relaxation. One German study indicated a success rate of 42% compared with a pregnancy rate of 26% in those not having acupuncture. According to this paper, this was partly attributable to a lowering of stress hormone levels following the treatment.

Regulates Hormones and Improves Egg Quality

Another way in which acupuncture can help with IVF is by treating problems in the pituitary gland and hypothalmus, the areas within the brain which are responsible for hormone production. The needles used can stimulate the release of endorphins which, in turn can influence the production of reproductive hormones which help to control the menstrual cycle. This can regulate the ovarian function and produce a normal cycle with healthier eggs.

Reduces Side Effects Of Fertility Drugs

The fertility drugs used in IVF can actually have side effects which can inhibit fertility, such as Clomid, which can produce a thin womb lining which is detrimental to sustaining an embryo. The increase in blood supply brought about by acupuncture can help to produce a thick, healthy uterine lining. One survey showed that women who received 2 acupuncture treatments - one 25 minute before embryo transfer and another 25 minutes afterwards had a higher pregnancy rate than women not having the procedure.

Lower Miscarriage Rates

Another way acupuncture can help with IVF is to lower miscarriage rates. In one study, where successful embryo rates were almost identical, the miscarriage rate amongst those having acupuncture was 8%, compared to 14% in those not having the procedure. Interestingly, the ectopic pregnancy rate was also lower.

More and more experts are recommending acupuncture as a complementary procedure to run alongside IVF. As there is no evidence to suggest that it has any harmful side effects, it would seem like a good idea to give it careful consideration.

If you have tinnitus then you may want to think about doing acupuncture. The nice part about going through an acupuncture treatment is the fact that you dont have to do it that often to cure your tinnitus and it will also put you in a very relaxed state or mind. More and more people are using acupuncture to treat their tinnitus and that is great to hear since it is a natural method of coping.

If you arent scared of getting poked with many needles then I strongly recommend doing acupuncture. There are so many people that hate needles but are willing to try it if it means they can hear normally again and the best part about these people is they keep coming back for more. Once you have experienced acupuncture once you will most likely be hooked. What acupuncture does to help tinnitus is it pokes you in your pressure points which will send different nerve signals and that will help with your tinnitus.

Many doctors dont believe that acupuncture will help tinnitus but as a natural method there truly isnt anything better. If acupuncture is not the way you want to go but you still want to go natural then you should try taking Ginkgo since it will help get the blood flowing to your ears and also send different signals to throughout your body.

If you dont care about going with a natural treatment then I recommend talking with your family doctor because there are many different kinds of medicine that they can give you which will do wonders for your tinnitus. The last thing I want to make sure you know about acupuncture is that it doesnt hurt as bad as many people say. The facts about acupuncture are that you will only feel the first needle going in but once that is over your experience with it will be biblical.

Adaptogens or the adaptogenic herbs have been considered as one of the fundamental components of the eastern medicine today. These herbs are now recognized all over the world for their extraordinary abilities to assist the body in coping up with all forms of stress.

The basic characteristic of adaptogens is to help the body system in getting back to its balanced state, irrespective of its overactive or underactive nature. The most appropriate way of fighting stress is to allow the body to balance it with the hormones present in body to dissuade it from influencing the body. These herbs help in increasing the overall well-being and also balance the endocrine hormone. They support the immune system too.

The most important benefit of adaptogens is that it decreases the bodys sensitivity to the hyperactive systems, and helps in increasing the sensitivity of the hypoactive systems. These Chinese tonic herbs that act as adaptogens work on adrenal glands, and it resists stress. The adrenal gland is the primary source that produced stress and other emotional responses. Reishi is another Chinese tonic herb with adaptogenic properties that helps in soothing the nerves and induces proper sleep as well. As reishi is an adaptogen, it is also considered to act as an immune stimulant.

It is strange to think that an ancient Chinese practice can help people who suffer from the very modern condition known as whiplash.

Whiplash describes the injury resulting from the head suddenly jerking backwards; injuring the neck and the shoulders.

It often results from a car accident and research suggests that 50 per cent of people with whiplash injuries still suffer a year after the accident.

No Win No Fee solicitors Claims Direct can help people who have suffered a whiplash injury make a personal injury claim if the accident happened through no fault of their own.

Claims Direct also helps support people throughout the rehabilitation process and ensure that they get the treatment they need.

And there is growing belief that Qi gong (pronounced che gong), a form of tai-chi, can be extremely beneficial to whiplash sufferers.

Leading GP Dr Martin Scurr, writing in the Good Health section of the Daily Mail on July 12th 2011, commented: "There is evidence to suggest that Qi gong, a form of tai-chi, produces improvement in the long term. I am frequently surprised by how many whiplash patients end up practicing this, and I sense that it can be of great value."

Jeremy Marshall certainly agrees with this statement. Jeremy, 35, has been practicing Qi gong for 13 years and teaches this healthcare system in Brighton.

I interviewed Jeremy to find out more about Qi gong and how it can help people with whiplash.

Q: Can you tell me a little about what Qi gong involves?

JM: Qi gong is all about maintaining good health or recovering from illness. Movements are performed slowly, with awareness, and by regulating the body, breath and mind. Introduce breathing movements can move you closer to the feeling of tranquillity and stillness which is the essence of Qi gong. As society has become more complex and demanding people crave good health and well-being even more – a desire which has led to a noticeable rise in the popularity of Qi gong.

Q: Do you think that Qi gong can help people with whiplash injuries?

JM: Yes, I do. I can give people very basic (and gentle) rolling-the-neck and nodding-the-head exercises which can help them relax the neck and re-align the vertebrae. Equally importantly, Qi gong can help people learn to relax and let go of the fear of hurting their neck and shoulders again. People who have suffered a whiplash injury can have a natural instinct to try and avoid moving their neck – hence the ‘funnels' which you see people wearing around their neck to limit mobility. But it can be essential to move your neck again in order to recover from injuries. Reducing stress and fear through Qi gong really can help people do this.

Q: Are there any specific breathing exercises for people with whiplash?

JM: People with whiplash injuries can benefit from breathing from the belly and the diaphragm. This is how you breathe when you sleep. When you are stressed your shoulders and neck tend to rise so you can find yourself taking shallower breaths – something which will not help the pain in these areas and will not help you combat stress. The less stress you have, the more open you will be to healing processes.

Q: Jeremy, you also practice acupuncture. How beneficial can acupuncture be to people with whiplash?

JM: Acupuncture can be very beneficial to people with neck injuries. Acupuncture needles can help release tightness in muscles and focus the immune system, which is so vital for healing, on one area. It is often a good idea for people with whiplash injuries to have acupuncture first to help repair damage and then introduce them to Qi gong – something they can practice at home to speed up the healing process even more.
